Prof. Rao serves as Senior Professor in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, where he also leads the Nano Functional Materials Technology Centre (NFMTC) and the Materials Science Research Centre. He is the Head of the Indian Solar Energy Harnessing Centre (ISEHC) at IIT Madras and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (loP), UK. His prolific career, spanning over three decades, is marked by groundbreaking research in nanomaterials, thin films, magnetic nanoparticles. superconductivity, spintronics, photovoltaics, and diamond coatings for biomedical applications. Prof. Rao has played a pivotal role in establishing world-class research infrastructure at IIT Madras, enabling pioneering research in nanosesence and nanotechnology
